On-Campus Residences
Pietermaritzburg on-campus residences accommodate approximately 2200 students. Competition for placement is keen and it is not possible to accept all applicants for on-campus accommodation. The on-campus residence accommodates first-entrant students, undergraduates, postgraduates and international students (depending on availability of space).
The on-campus residences comprises of a number of individual residences close to the main academic buildings, with full access to banking services, shops and cafeteria facilities. All residences are self-catering and have access control, lounges and television rooms and parking space. Students are accommodated in single rooms and double rooms.
Off-Campus University owned Residences
Off-Campus University owned Residences are situated away from a campus with full access to relevant amenities such as shopping malls, hospitals, public transport and other related services.
Denison Hall of Residence
Denison (men and women) is situated in quiet park-like surroundings on the old golf course portion of campus and consists of six sections namely, Upper Goldfields, Lower Goldfields, Towers, Winelands, Phase 5 and Phase 6. Denison accommodates mainly postgraduate students and a small number of final year students. Phase 6 accommodates Medical School Students only. Denison has a clubhouse, a large communal lounge. The residence has gym, TV, snooker and table tennis facilities.
All four residences are self-catering.
Off-campus Leased Residences (private landlords)
Off-campus Leased residences (private landlords) accommodate 2400 students. These residences are fully furnished. All students live in shared rooms. Occupants share a kitchen and a bathroom.
