Student Residences: Registration and Allocation
- Go to the Student Central Portal and log in with your credentials.
- Under the Student iEnabler menu, click on Residence Registration.
- View and accept the Residence House Rules.
- Submit your Residence Registration form and indicate your current year of study (e.g., 2022).
- Click on the year of study, save, and your proof of residence should appear at the end.
- Note: The proof of residence should indicate the year you are currently registered for and the date to occupy residence.
- Applications are online, and announcements will be made on the University website.
- Returning students: Apply at the end of the second semester for the following year.
- New entrants/first-year students: Apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO).
Students cannot choose specific residences. The Department of Student Residence Affairs (DSRA) allocates rooms based on available spaces.
You may register your allocated room as soon as registration opens and you have obtained financial clearance.
Room swaps are permitted after the registration closing date. Students may submit transfer requests to Residence Administrators during the designated week.
- Previously in residence: Contact the administrator for your former residence.
- Not previously in residence: Wait for notifications about space availability.
- No, but you must email the DSRA so the room can be reallocated.
Fees and Payment
- All fees must be deposited into the University’s bank account. Refer to the University’s payment schedule.
- DSRA staff do not accept residence fee payments.
Room and Facilities
Each room includes:
- A bed and mattress
- Desk, chair, wardrobe
- Notice board, bookcase/shelving
- Curtains or blinds
- Bed linen (single bed), blankets/duvet, towels
- Iron, washing baskets, kettle
- Cooking utensils, crockery, and cutlery
- Padlock, laptop/computer
- Food (all residences are self-catering)
- Optional: Portable radio (must comply with noise regulations).
- Pets, flammable liquids, heaters
- Electric hotplates or paraffin stoves
- Alcohol, drugs, weapons
- Visitors to stay with you.
- Print your proof of residence registration and submit it to the Residence Administrators (RAs) for guidance.
Private Accommodation
- Fill out the forms with the landlord and submit them to the Private Accommodation Office for approval and verification.
- Approved forms must then be submitted to Student Funding.
- Yes, as security for any breakages. The deposit is refundable at the lease's end if no damages occur.
- Collect cancellation forms from the Private Accommodation Office.
- Forms must be signed by both the student and landlord.
- Serve the landlord a written month's notice before cancellation to avoid losing the deposit.
- Submit signed forms to the Private Accommodation Office.
- The lease is valid for 10 months.
- Scan the forms and send them to the landlord for a signature.
Special Cases
- Sponsors cannot dictate residence allocations. Students are assigned rooms based on available spaces.
- Consult the Student Funding advisor from your College to verify if the package covers private accommodation.
- Note: Student Funding may not approve moving if there are available residence spaces.
- Such students should look for private accommodation or consult an administrator.
