WHAT ABOUT PERSONAL SAFETY AT UKZN?

  1. Student cards are used to gain access to UKZN campuses and the residences.
  2. Security guards are posted all around the campuses and at residence entrances.
  3. There are several emergency intercom boxes around the Pietermaritzburg Campus.
  4. Security guards are available to chaperone students within the Campus.
  5. An extensive transport service links all off- campus residences with respective campuses between 07:00 and 23:00 on weekday.

Security is, however, dependent on students playing their part, so it is IMPORTANT that:

  • When walking at night on or off campus, do not walk alone – walk with a friend.
  • When you leave your room, please lock the door.
  • Students are encouraged to insure and to take care of their own possessions.

If you have more questions, please contact the Office of the Department of Student Residence Affairs on the campus of your choice.
